Teacher Training

Become an Instructor

Our program is geared toward helping teacher trainees become well rounded and confident instructors equipped with the experience and knowledge to create a great class for their participants. Whether you are certain you want to teach for a career or you prefer to enhance your own practice this program is for you!

What is Required?

  • Complete at the host studio over 12 days.
  • If you miss a day, you can make it up at a future training session free of charge, provided arrangements are made in advance.
  • Alternatively, you can hire a master trainer at their regular rate to schedule a makeup day sooner.
  • Observation is a crucial teaching tool, and these hours can begin as soon as you sign up for training
  • Complete observation hours by watching classes in person at your studio or through trusted online providers such as Pilates Anytime, Stott/Merrithew, BASI, Peak, Polestar, Balanced Body, and Evidence-Based Pilates
  • Use Power4 Pilates Observation forms
  • Other resources may be considered with approval from your Master Trainer.
  • Learn by doing! Participate in Mat or Reformer classes to experience Pilates firsthand and improve your cueing skills
  • Classes can be completed at home, online, in person, in private sessions, or in small group classes
  • 95 hours of Anatomy (Anatomy of Pilates Course)
  • 4 hours of Evidence Based Pilates Strength Loading Concepts (EBP)
  • Start by practicing teaching privately or in small groups.
  • Progress to teaching a full mock class and, eventually, full-length classes on a studio’s schedule.
  • Use Power4 Pilates Practice Teaching sheets
  • Family and friends can participate in your practice sessions at Power4 Pilates; a waiver must be signed at the front desk and you must reserve the room you would like to practice in
  • Private rooms are available Saturday and Sunday from 8 am-6 pm, accommodations can be made for weekly sessions upon request
  • Prepare to teach full-length classes by starting with 10 minutes of assistant teaching during a live class. Stay to observe the rest of the class to count it as a full hour.
  • Feedback will be provided to management and then delivered to you. This coaching is essential for development and should be viewed as constructive input
  • Arrange these hours in advance with your studio manager and the instructor you’ll be working with
  • Written Exam: 3 hours, must pass with a score of 80 or above.
  • Practical Exam: 3 hours, in person, scheduled with the Master Trainer and Manager. All other hours must be completed before this exam. All apparatus will be reviewed.

Master Trainer & Advisor

Surreyya Hada was born in Chicago, raised in Texas and relocated to the Bay Area in the 1990s. Her first encounter with Pilates was via progressively minded physical therapy practice in Marin, CA after surgery for a major soccer related knee injury. As a dancer, athlete, and all around fitness junkie, Pilates totally rocked her fitness world. Surreyya completed her certifications through IM=X Pilates of New York, NY, Balanced Body University in Lafayette, CA, and Turning Point in Walnut Creek, CA. and is NCPC/PMA Certified. 

 

Her specialties are sports and dance related injuries as well as joint recovery/range of motion and hip/knee replacement. Surreyya received her AA and Dance Major Certification through the Izzy (Isadora Duncan) award winning City College of San Francisco, and her BA in Dance/Kinesiology at Saint Mary’s College of Moraga as a LEAP program awardee, where she is completing her MA in Dance. She also holds certificates in TRX, Zumba, Spin and African and Contemporary Dance and a Guinness Book World Record in Roller Skating. 

 

A lifelong dancer and performer, Surreyya teaches and dances throughout the bay area and has performed and taught in Iceland, Japan, and throughout the USA. Surreyya has trained and certified many of the Bay Area’s leading Pilates instructors.
