Kathryn

Instructor

Kathryn Spenader is a Certified Instructor at Power4 Pilates, with a diverse background in both fitness and behavioral sciences. Growing up as a competitive dancer, she first discovered Pilates as a tool to improve flexibility, strength, and body awareness, while also supporting her recovery from injuries sustained over years of dance training.

In addition to her passion for physical health, Kathryn brings over 15 years of experience in special education. She earned her undergraduate degree in psychology, laying the groundwork for her career in behavioral science. Kathryn continued her education by studying Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) in graduate school, and as a Board Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA), she has worked in a variety of settings including in-home, school, and clinical environments. In these roles, she worked directly with clients, trained staff, supervised graduate students, and collaborated with teachers, administrators, specialists, and parents to set goals, assess progress, and create programs that make learning accessible for all. This extensive experience has influenced her approach to teaching Pilates, where she prioritizes individualized support, patience, and fostering an environment where every individual feels empowered to reach their full potential.

Kathryn loves Pilates for its holistic approach to fitness, focusing on both the body and the mind. She is particularly drawn to how Pilates emphasizes proper alignment, breathing techniques, and core stability, tailoring each session to meet the individual where they are that day. Whether it's mastering advanced movements or experiencing the deep relaxation that follows a session, Pilates offers a perfect balance between strength and flexibility. Kathryn finds great joy in helping members connect with their bodies and experience similar transformative benefits.

Pilates has had a profound impact on Kathryn’s life. After experiencing two difficult pregnancies and postpartum recoveries, Kathryn turned to Pilates to reconnect with her body, rebuild strength, and regain confidence. After struggling with physical challenges and emotional body image issues, Power4 provided a welcoming and encouraging environment that allowed her to regain physical strength, realign her posture, and rediscover control over her body. A combination of group class and private sessions from the incredible instructors at Power4 gave her the tools to rebuild her confidence, mental clarity, and emotional resilience. Pilates helped Kathryn reconnect with herself during a time when she felt disconnected from her body, and it continues to play a crucial role in her self-care routine.

Motivated by her own transformative journey, Kathryn chose to become a Pilates instructor to help others experience the same benefits. Supported by her husband, and encouraged by the Power4 community, she began her teacher training in the summer of 2024. Having seen how Pilates helped her recover both physically and mentally after childbirth, she feels passionate about supporting others on their own wellness journey. Kathryn’s unique background in psychology, Applied Behavior Analysis, and special education gives her a deep understanding of meeting people where they are to provide individualized care and teaching techniques. She strives to create a space where members feel supported, respected, and empowered, whether they are new to Pilates or looking to deepen their practice.

Kathryn believes that Pilates is not just a workout but a lifelong practice that helps maintain strength throughout daily life. Pilates isn’t about the number of reps or how deep you can stretch; it’s about the connection you have with your body and moving with intention to honor your body’s needs each day. Kathryn encourages members to embrace each movement, practice patience, and celebrate the beauty of gradual progress. She hopes that each person leaves class with greater awareness of their physical strength and mental clarity, leading to lasting transformation in both body and mind.
